Based in Calce (Roussillon) since 2018, we are Laura and Paulo; we founded L’étranger in 2019, bringing together old vineyard plots and restoring a former winemaker’s cellar in the village center. After years of working in Paris—in fields as diverse as aviation and cinema—where we discovered the world of living wines and its rich diversity, this felt like the obvious next step.
We made the transition over three years alongside Olivier Pithon, learning the ropes of vineyard farming, cellar work, and winemaking hands-on.
VISION: Creating and reinforcing virtuous cycles by revitalizing the soil and landscape; minimizing the use of fossil fuels and chemicals; crafting living wines; and fostering direct connections with people.
VINES: 7 hectares surrounded by trees, native vegetation, and dry-stone walls— part of a single 15-hectare contiguous estate. We practice regenerative agriculture, tending the vines with whey, plant infusions and ferments, compost tea, and essential oils. A beautiful new planting of mixed white grape varieties saw light in 2025.
DIVERSIFICATION: Olive trees, almond trees, caper bushes, aloe vera, and more.
TERROIR: Blue marl, schist, and limestone; situated at an altitude of 230 meters, influenced by the sea on one side and the Pyrenees mountains on the other.
THE WINES: Our range consists of three whites and three reds. Minimal intervention, indigenous yeasts, short macerations, and subtle aging. Pure, drinkable wines that remain clean and straightforward down to the very last drop. Production is around 15,000 bottles per year.
PRESENCE: in bistros, fine-dining restaurants, wine bars, and small wine shops across France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and Brazil.
TRADE: direct, prioritizing time, quality, and long-term relationships. We handle our own sales and presentation rounds.
SUSTAINABILITY: we favor local businesses that avoid petroleum-based materials for packaging (bottles, labels, corks, cartons). We work with small direct suppliers, an ethical insurer, a non-profit organic certifier, and green energy providers—even for our website—while relying heavily on open-source software (LibreOffice, Dolibarr, Gimp, Thunderbird, Firefox, WordPress, KanBoard); all of this in pursuit of conscious autonomy.
We have no dogmas and no gurus; we are as free as our wines.
